Who are we ?
Source Macchiato is an independent French game development studio. We specialize in Unity and Unreal Engine 5 and have extensive experience with retro console development, including the Wii U and 3DS.
Our story
Source Macchiato has a story like no other. Founded in 2022 by Alyx Lihoreau under the name "Portal Wii U Team", its initial goal was to recreate Portal and Portal 2 on the Wii U. Alyx had extremely limited knowledge of programming and game development at the time. Left to navigate the challenges of a poorly documented console, she had to figure things out on her own.
A few months later, Alexis L., who simply wanted to play Portal on the Wii U, stumbled upon a YouTube video Alyx had uploaded. Motivated to contribute, Alexis reached out to Alyx, and the two quickly joined forces. Their collaboration took off, and their development skills grew rapidly. Meanwhile, the Portal: Wii U Edition community expanded day by day, as did the development team.
The question of "What should we name our development team ?" arose frequently. We wanted a name that would be memorable and representative of who we are. Eventually, we chose "Source Macchiato". "Source" pays homage to the Source Engine on which Portal was built, and "Macchiato" refers to café, the code name for the Wii U.
A key addition to the team was Omar, who joined as the lead game designer for our projects. He quickly became a cornerstone of Source Macchiato. Over time, people came and went, some supporting, other critiquing Source Macchiato. Despite the challenges, we keep moving forward. Perhaps, someday, the small team know for remaking iconic games on a dead console will become something much greater.
Our goals
Our main goal is to develop our own independent games. After winning the hearts of Wii U players, we hope to reach a broader audience with high-quality games that resonate with them.
